Lenten Alms 2025

Each Lent, we are asked to consider growing in the three pillars of Lent: Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving. It has been said that giving alms includes both prayer and fasting, and thus helps us to better experience Lent. This year, Gesu is encouraging everyone to direct their almsgiving to two organizations that hold special significance for the parish.

Sts. Simon and Jude Parish - Haiti
Our twinning relationship with this parish in Mon Opital, Haiti, has helped us be aware of and better understand the difficulties experienced daily by our brothers and sisters at Sts. Simon and Jude. Through the years, Sts. Simon and Jude school has grown from kindergarten through sixth grade to include middle school and high school. The needs of the school lunch program have grown accordingly, with enrollment now over 600 students. We count on your generosity to enable the lunch program to feed the students five days a week. When funds run short, Fr. Roosevelt is compelled to limit the program to fewer days. Learn more about this ministry below:



Olga Neighborhood Wellness Services - Redeemer Lutheran Church at 19th and Wisconsin
At Olga Neighborhood Wellness Services, people can stop in for a warm, nourishing meal three days a week. Guests also have onsite access to free support for substance abuse disorders. Services include substance use assessments, referrals to treatments, peer support services, group recovery meetings, and mental health services. Gesu has proudly partnered with our neighbor, Redeemer Lutheran Church, in the past, and we are happy to be able to support this neighborhood ministry there. Learn more about this ministry below:
