Central
City Churches is an ecumenical collaboration of churches along
Wisconsin Avenue to serve the material and spiritual needs of the
elderly and families in the neighborhood.
Gesu supports both the Central City Churches Outreach
Ministry and Food
Pantry and Central Community Interfaith Program for Older Adults with
monetary
contributions and volunteers.
The Central City Churches Outreach Ministry is located at Our Savior's
Lutheran Church, 31st
and Wisconsin, and offers neighbors assistance with basic
needs, especially food and hygiene products. Neighbors are also
assisted with job searches through the use of the phone, newspaper and
computer job listings, and sometimes with bus tickets. Neighbors in
need are welcomed with coffee and cookies before meeting one-on-one
with the director, Alicia Ellis, who determines their need and makes
appropriate referrals. Her contact hours are Monday through Thursday,
from 9:30 am until 3:00 pm. The Food Pantry is open from 9:30-11:00 am.
The Central Community
Interfaith
Neighborhood Outreach Programs
helps older adults (60+) remain independent in their own homes and
provide the following services: transportation, shopping services,
in-home visitation, telephone visitation, minor home chores, and help
with paperwork and applications. Older adults are helped to identify
the resources they need and provided with information about other
community resources. Neighborhood Outreach professionals keep abreast
of all services available in Milwaukee County for older adults and
provide expert advice and information. They also will act as
an
advocate when needed for older adults.
