Faith-Based Organizations

Central City Churches

Central City Churches is an ecumenical collaboration of churches along Wisconsin Avenue that serve the material and spiritual needs of the older adults, families and people in need in our neighborhood.

Gesu supports both the Central City Churches Outreach Ministry and Food Pantry and Central Community Interfaith Program for Older Adults with monetary contributions and volunteers. Gesu staff and parishioners serve on the board and on the Outreach Committee.

The Central City Churches Outreach Ministry is located at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 31st and Wisconsin, and offers neighbors assistance with basic needs, food and hygiene products. Neighbors are also assisted with job searches through the use of the phone, newspaper and computer job listings. CCC Director is Pastor Teresa Thomas-Boyd who works with neighbors to determine needs and make appropriate referrals. Call CCC at 414-342-1522 or visit their website or Facebook page.

The Central Community Interfaith Neighborhood Outreach Program helps older adults (60+) remain independent in their own homes and provides: transportation, shopping, visitation, home chores, and help with paperwork and applications. Older adults are helped to identify the resources they need. Neighborhood Outreach professionals keep abreast of services available in Milwaukee County for older adults and provide advice and information.

Interfaith Older Adult Programs

Many local congregations--including Gesu--have a history of involvement in Interfaith Older Adult Programs. Gesu parishioner Shannon Meagher has written a history of Interfaith for Older Adults.

Common Ground

Gesu is a founding member of Common Ground, a broad-based organization in Southeast Wisconsin, made up of congregations and religious groups affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church, Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS), Presbyterian, Episcopal and United Church of Christ (UCC), and also certain foundations, individuals and unions. Common Ground exists to address Greater Milwaukee's critical social issues in an effective, non-partisan way and to achieve positive changes in our community. See their website for more information.

Gesu Parish is a member of MICAH, Milwaukee Innercity Congregations Allied for Hope. This church-based organization is grounded in the principles of empowerment through the Gospel, education, advocacy and social action. We encourage Gesu parishioners to be active in MICAH – an interfaith, multi-racial organization to empower people to achieve structural change for justice and peace in the inner city. See their website for information or follow them on social media.
