The approach to Human Concerns Ministry at Gesu Parish is multi-faceted and wholistic: Direct Service; International Twinning; Parish Health Ministry; Respect Life; Outreach; and Justice Education/Social Action. Fostering Gesu's mission to care for the poor, we invite all parishioners to service, education, advocacy and working for justice and peace in solidarity with the poor and marginalized - locally, nationally and globally.
Having lived in Milwaukee all my life, I have a deep desire to help make our city the best it can be. I feel fortunate to work in an urban ministry setting with such fine staff and parishioners. It’s a special blessing to work in a Jesuit parish located “in the heart of the city” on Marquette University’s campus. Our social ministry collaboration with Marquette is strong and deep.
As Gesu’s Director of Human Concerns, I bring over 30 years of experience in faith-based outreach and advocacy on behalf of those who are poor. I see this position as one of a servant leader, always extending an invitation to others to learn about Catholic Social Teaching, and to participate in the call of their Baptism to service, outreach and advocacy. I especially enjoy implementing this ministry in collaboration with our staff, with MU Campus Ministry and with a variety of Catholic and interfaith partners, including Central City Churches, MICAH and Common Ground.
We are blessed to have our sister-parish Covenant relationship with Sts. Simon and Jude in Haiti. Maintaining and growing this relationship falls within the Human Concerns ministry. We share with the Jesuits a mission of lived-faith that promotes justice for all, and the guidance of Ignatian spirituality which nourishes our prayer and action. All these reasons combined truly define why I love working at Gesu Parish!
